Chapter 1: Why I Wrote This Bitch

You know, I am only aware of a few people who have truly authored a ‘how to tune guide’. There are some ‘Tuning Bibles’ out there, and I believe they intimated many folks who quickly gave up and became flat-line bashers. I have also noticed that many of the cats out here, really doing this, rarely show off their stuff on YouTube and what-not. Perhaps its the fear of giving away “trade secrets”? I can understand the intellectual property that is gained in this hobby, and some folks just want to give you enough so that you are still behind them.

Now here, I believe in giving it ALL away. Just like in my professional life; I believe the best thing a leader can do is create other leaders. I’ve enjoyed this last generation of nitro heads, as it’s clear they are already out-performing the Gen 2 guys. I imagine at least one has learned something from my channel, so the worst thing would be for them to refrain from executing what they have learned. In other words, represent that sh*t! I love it, I love it, I love it!

Talkin’ Bout my Generation

I believe thee are FOUR’generations’ of nitro RC hobbyists.

  1. GEN 1 [ORIGINAL] (Inception to early 2000’a)The original cats who made it big…old skool to the bone..real MFers. They were figuring this sh*t out as they went. Forums were not en masse yet so much of the communication was conducted via digests (remember those and you are really for real type real. Ha ha). These are the guys I truly respect as when I (GEN 3 guy) got in to this I found out they were the ones to listen to.
  2. GEN 2: [WANNABE] (Early to Late Mid 2000’s). They came on after seeing the GEN 1 guys putting it down. Nitro RC is at it’s peak They research much of the literature left behind and it’s very hypothetical, making it appear even more complex than it is. GEN guys reinforce the learning curve to them (because they had the hardest one). Many of the GEN 2 guys give up trying to even get their vehicles started, but because they are still fan-boys of the hobby they jump on forums and jaw instead of ride.  This is obviously not all of them, and in fact not even most of them. BUT….they have the strongest trend of each grouping (and more people).
  3. GEN 3  [REPRESENT!] Late 2000’s They see the GEN 2 guys puffing their chest and many of them switching to electric. Consequentially they are adapt at figuring out who the protocol truly set by Gen 1 as has already been set. For this Back to the Future generation, success and failure has BEEN defined. They brought it back around and are fortunate enough to reap that. Piece it all together, represent, and then focus on assisting others.
  4. Gen 4: [POWERNOOBS] The Powernoob Generation. Many of them came up watching Gen 3’s niche style, many of them came out of the cut and hit the ground running because a path through all the bullshit had been cleared and they have a fighting chance to really do this. Then they wanna prance around with their Rex Legends, and Plus .28, (just like we were with our (P5’s and lur Roma’s) with their little engine heaters on their Tekno truggies…….doing 3-4 videos per day. Ha ha. Allright, go on with it then. Some of them are bringing HEAT too, so this shows Gen 2 has not completely ruined it, as we expect Gen 5 to take things to a completely new level. I have predicted I will be dead within two years (that whole broken heart thing) so I won’t be here to see Gen 5, but I hope what I leave behind will have some influence on them.

Why This Guide Will Work

Of course, we all know that reality has a habit of continually making its presence known. If I had to guess at the number of people who’ve approached me and stated, “You know? You are right. I’m ashamed I even listened to those guys” is well over 200. This is simply those who reached out. For those people it will work.I’m unable to explain why disparate results, but that is not my job. Instead, I’m setting expectations here. I on;y ask for those who TRULY see the light to make amends. Right the wrongs you have employed. Not for me. Not for any other hobbyists…instead, for yourself.

Why this Won’t Work

This guide is intended for those who are truly open minded about tuning. I thought long and hard about keeping this guide from the hands of the GEN 2 hobbyists, but I eventually realized it doesn’t matter. Even if they tried to employ what’s in this guide, until they conduct some soul-searching that spans far beyond what’s in this guide, this process will not work for them. This is what makes them special. They truly believe they understand it, and turn ostrich when they see someone who is really doing it. It’s like a club for victims of those who did not have the heart for nitro rc. Ha ha I mean, shiiiii. Prove me wrong. That’s how to do something if you don’t like it. Otherwise assume it is facts and get with me should you have questions.

My podcast will be up by EOY so take notes, do whatever. I’ll give us plenty to talk about.

Okay, next I’ll publish Chapter 2: That Process.

Here is a sneak peak…..

Prerequisites: [CHAPTER 2 PREVIEW]
  1. Ensure you have good traction and are properly taking advantage it via your clutch system.
  2. Ensure the fuel delivery system is tight and flowing.
  3. All gaskets are in prime condition and there are no ‘leaks” in the pressure system.
  4. The fuel is not spoiled.
  5. The needles are at ‘stock setting’. This means any setting that will allow you to safely start the engine in a rich condition.
  6. Idle-stop is about .75-.1.00 mm open. Usually the size of a paper clip.
  7. The pipe is not a liability for that engine. The pulses in the pipe should be aligned with your engines RPMs (i.e. not too slow or not too fast).
  8. Don’t be afraid of damaging your engine during the tuning phase by leaning it out. Most engine damage I have seen has through running the engines too rich for too many gallons.
